Flipkart sure is great way to purchase stuff on line. I recently ordered an induction cooker via Flipkart.I ordered it on 19/12/2011 around 12.30 PM and got it delivered to my residence the next day afternoon. Great delivery time folks.

But I have a problem with Flipkart. They have a product and I have the money,I am willing to pay the money and purchase what they are offering on line. When I go shopping to a shop in town and say I like a fridge, I purchase it and I don’t need to give my name or any personal information even to obtain a bill or warranty card. The fact that I have the money and they have the fridge I like and our willingness to transact cash for the good is sufficient for the transaction to occur.

The presence of the bill and the warranty card is proof that I have purchased the product and I get the service in the warranty period for any goods that I have purchased.

In case of an online purchase, the only thing that the vendor needs to know is your email address and mode of payment and the address to deliver the product, nothing more nothing less. You don’t need to even
register on a website to do the transaction. Flipkart created an online account in my name xxxxxx@flipkart.com (xxxxxx being the username part of the email address I used to register with Flipkart) without obtaining my permission.

A few emails were exchanged and Flipkart had to close down the account that they created on my behalf without consulting me.

Note: I have modified name of my email address, model brand and name and other transaction ids so that my privacy and right to anonymity online is not breached and also the names of the customer service representatives of FlipKart who corresponded with me.
Privacy is a two way street right ?

I came across this beautiful Sanskrit verse about the uniqueness of Free Knowledge Sharing: (Find the English Translation below)

न चौर हार्यम न च राज हार्यम |

न भ्रात्रभाज्यम न च भारकारी ||

व्यये कृते वर्धते नित्यं |

विद्या धनं सर्वे धनं प्रधानम् ||

Knowledge can neither be stolen by a thief, nor snatched by a king.

It is indivisible unlike ancestral property, it never burdens the bearer,

it multiplies manifold when offered to others.

Knowledge is the supreme form of wealth.

I started feeling uneasy while at work on 2/8/2010. A checkup with the doctor the next day revealed that my Blood pressure was low and I was advised to take a some rest which I did yesterday

Today I am feeling ok today and hope to report to work.

Romans 8:28 (New International Version)

More Than Conquerors

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

HDFC Bank sure is an expert with pressure tactics and they seem to have left no stone unturned in making my ATM Card withdrawal limit to only Rs 10,000/-
when a Debit Card withdrawal Limit is placed at Rs 25,000/- for the same account in a desperate bid to force clients like myself who refuse to bite the ‘Debit Card’ bait.

I am just back from a visit to the Lower Parel Branch of HDFC bank and the Bank confirmed that the daily withdrawal limit is only Rs 10,000/- without any option to upgrade the withdrawal limit.

HDFC Bank

1) Why is it that for the very same account of mine an ATM card has a lower withdrawal Limit (Rs,10000/-) and a Debit Card has a higher withdrawal limit (Rs 25,000) which is more than double the withdrawal limit on an ATM Card ?

2) Why are you discriminating ATM card users and providing more withdrawal privileges for Debit card holders and that too for the same account ?

HDFC nice innovative way to use pressure tactics on your clients and force them to your so called ‘upgrade’ to a Debit Card, I am not biting your
bait though.

It seems my previous blog post about my ATM Card is being read by HDFC Bank.

Today HDFC Bank send me an ‘ATM Card’ after denying and lying to me for more than an year that they did not have any product called an ‘ATM Card’ but only a ‘Debit Card ‘.

The Card arrived at my office address since my account with HDFC Bank is a corporate account.

It just goes to show that If you are persistent and clear on what you want and you are in the right, you will get what you want even from a Bank and not what Sales or Marketing Droids are trying to sell to you.

I had specifically asked HDFC Bank to provide me an ATM card and NOT a Debit card and now I get an SMS stating that that ‘ATM/Debit Card’ PIN has been dispatched to me.

What the heck, Does HDFC Bank not understand the difference between a Debit card and an ATM card in spite of specifically filling in an application form at the Lower Parel Branch asking only for an ATM Card ?

When I tried applying for an ATM card in person at the Lower Parel Branch of HDFC Bank, I was first told by the customer service desk at the Lower Parel Branch that HDFC bank does not provide ATM cards but only Debit cards. I polietly explained to them that as thier client my requirement was an ATM card and not a Debit Card and finally they agreed that in ‘special cases’ they do provide ATM cards.. Since at the time of application for this ATM card, I had run out of check book leaves and I did not have any means of withdrawing cash otherwise, I wanted HDFC bank consider mine as thier so called ‘special case’. They agreed and told me that they could now provide me an ATM Card and for which they made me fill an application form for an ATM card. The procedure included entering a special code in the application form that said that I did not need a Debit Card but ONLY an ATM card.

Now I get this SMS on 17/07/2010 which said,

‘Your HDFC Bank ATM/Debit Card has been dispatched via ***** bill number ********* through xyz courier to your Mailing Address registered with the bank. In case you do not your PIN Number within 7 days, please contact HDFC Bank Phonebanking or your Nearest Bank Branch’.

HDFC Bank don’t you understand the difference between an ATM card and a Debit Card ?

In case you don’t, please read this wikipedia link about what an ATM Card is.

On the URL it says ‘ Unlike an offline debit card that is signature based, in-store EFTPOS purchases or refunds with an ATM card require authentication through a personal identification number (PIN), similar to an online debit card that is also PIN based. This means that ATM cards cannot be used at merchants that are without a direct connection to an interbank network.’ HDFC Bank, This is my requirement.

This is what the wikipedia says is a Debit card.. HDFC Bank, this is what I don’t want.

HDFC Bank, if you are client oriented bank which places client satisfaction over everything else then let me tell you this one more time HDFC Bank, as your client, I am not at all pleased with your service of lies and deception and double talk and refusal to give me what my requirement is and instead trying to force your will on me.
