Google is slowly but steadily phasing out the internal use of Microsoft’s ubiquitous Windows operating system because of security concerns, according to several Google employees.

This move has been hastened by the fact that the Google chinese operations were cracked

New hires are now given the option of using Apple’s Mac computers or PCs running the Linux operating system and according to insiders in Google “Maintaining Microsoft Machines is a huge security overhead”.

Windows is known for being more vulnerable to attacks by crackers and more susceptible to computer Viruses and Trojans than any other operating systems. The greatest number of attacks on Windows has much to do with its wide spread usage, which has made it a bigger target for crackers and script kiddies.

Google is also in an effort to run the company on Google’s own products, including its forthcoming Chrome OS, which will compete with Windows. Google and Microsoft already compete on many fronts, from search, to web-based email, to operating systems.
